Mission Farewell - August 15, 2021

Yes I know what you're thinking and I hope so too... that I grow a foot or two.

Good Morning, My name is Parker Beck and I was called to serve the lord in the Wisconsin, Milwaukee Mission.  I will be reporting to the online Missionary Training Center Tomorrow August 16th. I’m looking forward to living in the same place with the Milwaukee Bucks that won the NBA championship. I’ve also been looking up videos of a Wisconsin accent. And I’m still trying to get the accent yet. There are also very hot summers with lots of mosquitoes and very cold winters. The reason why I’m serving a mission is because I love the gospel and how much joy it brings into my life. I also want to end up like my amazing Dad and older sister and two brothers who served missions. And my mom who served a mission raising 6 kids I want to share the light of Christ with the people of Wisconsin.

I will be talking about the talk given by Elder Alan R. Walker in the April 2021 General conference, which   basically talks about the hymn ”hark all ye nations!

Hark, all ye nations! Hear heaven's voice Thru ev'ry land that all may rejoice! Angels of glory shout the refrain: Truth is restored again!” the phrase “truth is restored again” is very well explained with president Henry B Eyring's words taught in the April 2008 general conference

“This is the true church, the only true church, because in it are the keys of the priesthood. Only in this church has the Lord lodged the power to seal on earth and to seal in heaven as He did in the time of Apostle Peter. Those keys were restored to Joseph Smith, who then was authorized to confer them upon the members of the Quorum of the Twelve.

“When the Prophet Joseph was murdered, the enemies of the church thought the Church would die. They thought it was the creation of a mortal man and therefore would perish with him. But their hopes were dashed. It was the true church, and it also had the power to live on, even when those chosen for a time to lead it died.

“We have seen today a demonstration that this is the true and living Church. The keys of the priesthood are held by mortals, but the way has been prepared by the Lord for the Keys to remain functioning on the earth so long as the people exercise faith, both that the keys are on the earth and that they have been passed on by the will of God to His chosen Servants.”

Read D&C 1:30

Now to break up the second verse “Searching in darkness, nations have wept; Watching for dawn, their vigil they've kept. All now rejoice; the long night is o'er. Truth is on earth once more!”

Read D&C 1:17,22-23

When I turned twelve I was able to go to the temple for the first time. The power of the spirit exceeded anything that I thought I could or would ever feel doing confirmations and baptisms for the dead in the baptistry. Then on July 20th after the long pandemic I was able to go to the temple again to get my endowments out before I leave on a mission and feel God’s love for me.

The gospel on the earth is an amazing blessing and how I’ve had the opportunity and privilege to be born in the covenant when so much of the world doesn’t have that opportunity. There are so many people out there in the world “Searching in darkness” and luckily there are missionaries that can go out to serve and find those who are lost and want to know truth and how lucky I am to be able to have the opportunity to give people who don’t know the truth to help them find it

Not to break up the third verse “Chosen by God to serve him below, To ev'ry land  and people we'll go, Standing for truth with fervent accord, Teaching his holy word.”

My brother Tanner told me a story about Guillermo who was a great example of being chosen by god. Guillermo was an amazing member missionary. He lived far up in the mountains, about 20 mins from the city, and he had a really good friend named Damian, who he told Tanner about and he was super willing to go with them and teach his friend with the missionaries. They went over and over and eventually got to his heart with the Gospel and he got baptized. About halfway into teaching Damian, they started teaching his whole family that lived next door and they were such a powerful family, they were all baptized as well and loved being in the Gospel. Because this one member loved sharing the Gospel, and I know that he was chosen by God to teach and to help the missionaries teach this person that led to helping a whole family of about 8 people come into the Gospel.

Talking about “chosen by God to serve him below.” One of the most profound experiences I have ever had with the gospel was at conference when President Russell M. Nelson was made President of the church. I got such a powerful feeling when I raised my hand and sustained him as the prophet of our church. It really shows that god has chosen those to serve him below and he still does.

An Amazing scripture story that shows someone who was chosen by god was Ammon.  The four sons of Mosiah left Zarahemla to teach the Lamanites the gospel. They each went to a different city. Ammon went to the land of Ishmael. As he entered the city, the Lamanites tied him up and took him to their king, Lamoni. Ammon told King Lamoni that he wanted to live among the Lamanites. Lamoni was pleased and had his men untie Ammon. And said to take one of his daughters to wife and said no he would be one of the king’s servants. The king sent him to watch his flocks. One day while Ammon and some other servants were taking the flocks to get water, Lamanite robbers scattered the animals and tried to steal them. The servants who were with Ammon were scared. King Lamoni had killed his other servants who had lost animals to these robbers. Ammon knew this was his chance to use the Lord’s power to win the hearts of the Lamanites. Then they would listen to his teachings. Ammon told the servants that if they gathered the scattered animals, the king would not kill them. Ammon and the other servants quickly found the animals and drove them back to the watering place. The Lamanite robbers came back. Ammon told the other servants to guard the flocks while he fought the robbers. The Lamanite robbers were not afraid of Ammon. They thought they could easily kill him. The power of God was with Ammon. He hit and killed some of the robbers with stones, which made the rest of the robbers very angry. They tried to kill Ammon with their clubs, but each time a robber lifted a club to hit Ammon, he cut off the robber’s arm. Frightened, the robbers ran away. As you all know Later by doing this and other things he ended up helping to convert King Lamoni and most of the people in the land. Ammon was such an amazing example of “teaching his holy word” and “Chosen by god to serve him below.”

Now for the chorus “Oh, how glorious from the throne above Shines the gospel light of truth and love! Bright as the sun, this heavenly ray Lights ev'ry land today.”

As Joseph smith prophetically declared “the Standard of Truth has been erected; no unhallowed hand can stop the work from progressing … till the purposes of god shall be accomplished and the Great Jehovah shall say the work is done”

Bear testimony
